Netflix password sharing to end soon: All you need to know
Netflix, an American subscription video-on-demand
over-the-top streaming company, will reportedly begin cracking down on password
sharing. The company has also announced that it will roll out its new paid
password-sharing option by the end of the first quarter (Q1) of 2023.
In the company's earnings report, Netflix announced that
password-sharing would be made unavailable for users early this year. It would
restrict the simultaneous use of Netflix accounts beyond households.
Netflix reportedly said in the report, "While our terms
of use limit the use of Netflix to a household, we recognize this is a change
for members who share their account more broadly.”
Reportedly, Netflix subscribers will have the option to pay
an extra amount if they want to share Netflix with people they don’t live with.
However, all members can still watch Netflix while traveling on any device.
In October 2022, Netflix announced the 'Profile Transfer'
feature to prevent password sharing.
With this feature, a person can transfer their Netflix profile if they
start their own membership.
Recently, Netflix founder and co-CEO (Chief Executive
Officer) Reed Hastings announced that he would step down from his post at the
company. He said that he would hand over the company’s management to co-CEO Ted
Sarandos and chief operating officer (COO) Greg Peters.
Netflix reportedly added over 7.5 million subscribers in the
December quarter. However, the company came under intense pressure after losing
customers in the first half of 2022.
Recently, Netflix introduced an all-new interface and
features to the iOS app. Under the new feature, big banners with the latest
movies or TV series added to Netflix would pop up when a user opens the app. A
Netflix spokesperson reportedly said, “We recently updated the Netflix iOS app
with better visuals.” Former Netflix product designer Janum Trivedi also
tweeted about the update.
