UAE Accelerates Global Energy Transition: Minister of Climate Change Highlights Commitment at 15th IRENA Assembly

 At the 15th International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly in Abu Dhabi, Her Excellency Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to driving the global energy transition. Her Excellency’s statement at the event emphasized the UAE’s leadership in sustainable energy, its goal of reaching Net Zero by 2050, and its support for international cooperation to address climate change challenges.

Dr. Al Dahak’s presence at the Assembly came at a crucial time when global attention is focused on the need to shift to renewable energy. The UAE’s dedication to clean energy was highlighted, especially its goal of doubling its clean and renewable energy capacity as part of its broader Net Zero by 2050 Strategy. In her address, Her Excellency emphasized the UAE Consensus, forged at COP28, which advocates for tripling renewable energy capacity and doubling energy efficiency by 2030. This urgent call for action highlighted the UAE’s leadership role in pushing for a sustainable energy future. “The world is watching, and the time for action is now,” Dr. Al Dahak stated, emphasizing the need for nations to prioritize renewable energy and move faster in addressing the global energy crisis.

Beyond its national efforts, the UAE has also been at the forefront of supporting the international community, particularly developing nations, in their transition to renewable energy. Dr. Al Dahak discussed the UAE’s substantial investments through initiatives like ALTÉRRA, the world’s largest private climate investment fund, and the Africa Green Investment Initiative. These initiatives help fund and support renewable energy projects, particularly in regions that face significant barriers to adopting clean energy solutions.

She also underlined the UAE’s broader commitment to helping developing countries access renewable energy solutions, which is critical for bridging the global gap in energy deployment.
