Shocking! Women not wearing hijab to be banned from Iran’s metro
Iranian women not wearing the hijab will not be allowed to
use the Tehran metro, Iranian state TV has reported. This comes as girls in
secondary schools in Tehran continue to report poison attacks.
Hijab enforcement groups in the Islamic Republic of Iran will
check on the Tehran metro to deny entry to women not wearing the hijab. This
can lead to banning some women from work, according to The Guardian.
The Tehran Metro Company, the largest metro system in the
Middle East, launched a verbal reminder project in Tehran, the capital of Iran,
and suburban metro stations to stop women from passing through the ticket
barrier without wearing a hijab.
Masoud Darshti, the chief executive of Tehran and Suburbs
Metro Operation Company, said that hijab headquarters were established to issue
reminders to women not wearing the hijab.
On Saturday, the Iranian government said that it planned to
install new cameras in streets and use the traffic CCTV cameras to detect
Iranian women not wearing the hijab and not complying with the country’s dress
code. Reportedly, fines would be imposed if someone is found violating the
rules. According to the police, the move will be implemented from next
Saturday.
According to the judiciary’s Mizan news agency, the
resistance against the hijab law damaged Iran’s spiritual image and spread
insecurity.
According to the Iranian judiciary, if women refuse to wear
the hijab, the authorities will impose fines of 1m tomans (£190) on them. They
will also be taken to court for not wearing the hijab.
After the death of Mahsa Amini in September 2022, many
Iranian women have refused to wear hijabs and comply with the dress code rules.
They demanded an end to the hijab law, in a sign of the “women, life, freedom”
protests. Amini reportedly died in the custody of the police.
