Shalamcheh-Basra Railway Would Be Built in Iraq, Says Transport Minister
According to the Iraqi Transport Minister Razzaq Muhibis
Al-Saadawi, his nation is adamantly committed to completing the
Shalamcheh-Basra Railway construction project, which has been put on hold for
years.
Al-Saadawi said during his meeting with Mehrdad Bazrpash,
the Iranian minister of roads and urban development, on Thursday in Tehran that
the Iraqi government strives to take the credits required for the execution of
this massive project into account in its 2023 Budget.
Al-Saadawi reiterated the serious commitment of his
country to the opening of the Shalamcheh-Basra Railway by saying that the rail
line has been designated on the Iraqi side.
The method for building the railway, choosing the project
commissioner, and other matters of shared interest were considered between the
two parties.
These border crossings at Mehran, Shalamcheh, and Chazabeh
involved road transit as well as the transit of Iraqi trucks. Also, they had
fruitful discussions about the rail and road connections from the Khosravi
border crossing to Baghdad.
The Iranian minister of roads demanded an increase in
weekly flights from 120 to 200 between Iran and Iraq. One of the other items
that the two sides discussed was port and maritime cooperation between the two
nations. It was decided that a joint committee would investigate this matter.
