Iran to take strict actions against women without hijab
The Ministry of the Interior of Iran called on people to
reprimand women without hijabs. Iranian police announced th
e use of video
surveillance to identify women who violate the mandatory hijab rules.
Alireza Ghasemi Farzad, the governor of Hamadan Province of
Iran, announced that "banks and public offices" would not provide
services to women who do not wear hijabs. He called on “non-governmental
organisations to help enforce hijab” across the country.
Iranian authorities reportedly said that women’s acts of
civil disobedience damaged Iran's spiritual image and increased insecurity in
the country. The latest move would penalise women who refuse to wear a hijab.
The Tehran Metro Company said that the authorities would
stop women from passing through the ticket barrier without wearing a hijab.
Masoud Darshti, the chief executive of Tehran and Suburbs Metro Operation
Company, said that women must wear hijabs to use the Tehran metro.
Under new plans, women who violate the rules can face
penalties. Iranian authorities will impose fines of 1m tomans on women for not
complying with the rules. Women will also be taken to the court.
In Iran, all women and girls over the age of 9 must wear
hijabs. They are required to wear loose-fitting trousers under their coats.
They cannot show their body, especially in public places.
After the death of Mahsa Amini in police custody in
September 2022, Iranian women no longer want to submit to the strict dress
codes and mandatory hijab policy. They have demanded an end to the hijab law.
Many women have started to go out in public without veils. However, the authorities
have repeatedly warned them to respect the dress codes and wear the hijab.
