Israeli embassy established close to Iran's border in Turkmenistan
Eli Cohen, the foreign minister of Israel, arrived in
Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, yesterday to open a new Israeli embassy. Ashgabat is
only 13 kilometers from the Iranian border.
The nation, which is regarded as one of the most closed in
the world, has not had an Israeli foreign minister visit for 30 years.
Following his trip to Azerbaijan, Cohen made a stop in
Turkmenistan. He is accompanied by a business delegation made up of 20 Israeli
entrepreneurs working in the agricultural, water management, and cybersecurity
industries.
The president, foreign minister, and ministers of
agriculture and environmental protection of Turkmenistan will all meet with the
Israeli official. A number of cooperation agreements in the areas of
investment, education, and the environment were also reportedly being signed by
him.
