How Social Distance Is Leading To Domestic Violence in China

Mass isolation and lack of social contact could be putting people in Australia under severe mental pressure. People under isolation is different from social distancing and this guideline seems to be having an adverse effect on many, who may be suffering from mental sickness and other anxiety or marital disorders.
Currently, there are more than 500 million people in China under quarantine. Reports are suggesting that isolation in China has led to the neglect of vulnerable people, babies being abandoned, and sadly increase in cases of domestic violence, fear, and anxiety.
Many are experiencing what is referred to as cabin fever, a kind of state of mind where you feel distressed and claustrophobically irritable or restlessness because of confinement into a certain kind of space or isolated otherwise for an extended period of time.
The distressing social situation is more pronounced in China and might catch onto other countries. Additionally, the idle time has led to more alcohol consumption. While social service and caregivers have started giving services online, there is a need for social contact, which is missing.
Another reason for tension and panic is fear of fewer supplies wherein women have been seen fighting over toilet paper and assaulting each other in supermarkets. In response, supermarket owners in Australia, for example, has made public statements that bulk buying and assault, as a result, will not be tolerated and there is no need for panic. Supply chains will remain well oiled, and therefore bulk buying is unnecessary. The pandemic has not hit Australia but chances are it will soon.  Also, supermarkets are requesting people not to hoard as it then makes it difficult for daily wage workers to buy supplies.
The worst-hit are going to be causal workers, elderly dependent, or mental patients who suffer from anxiety issues. Emotionally, people may experience stress due to the uncertainty of where the virus may spread, and the welfare of family members.
Social researchers believe the best way to stop the cycle is by allowing proper and accurate information to flow amongst the people. A lot of anxiety comes forth due to uncertainty and lack of information flow. Also, social media should create a sense of connectedness to help people with anxiety and stress.  Creating a sense of solidarity and not a feeling of isolation is also important to ensure people don’t feel left out and unnecessarily scared and anxious.
