Israeli strikes near Damascus injure 2 soldiers: Syria
Syria has said that Israeli airstrikes in Damascus, the
capital of Syria, on Thursday injured two soldiers and caused material damage
to infrastructure.
According to Syrian state media, Israel staged airstrikes in
the Syrian capital around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday. As per the SANA state news
agency citing an unidentified military source of Syria, some missiles were shot
down by the Syrian air defences. The unidentified military official also
revealed that the attack caused "some material damage."
According to Syria's defence ministry, Israel carried out an
attack on the occupied Golan Heights. Syria alleged that the “Israeli enemy”
targeted several positions in the vicinity of Damascus.
As per a report by AFP, Israel has launched several air
strikes on Syria in recent years. Israel repeatedly targets the Damascus and
Aleppo airports. Israel took responsibility for the attacks, saying that it
targeted Iran-backed forces and Hezbollah fighters.
Last week, Israeli airstrikes targeted the airport at the
northern city of Aleppo. The attack caused damage to the airport. Reportedly,
Israel also targeted an underground munitions depot at the Nairab military
airport. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the airstrike
completely destroyed the depot.
Earlier this year, Israel reportedly fired missiles toward
the Damascus international airport. Syria also accused Israel of continuously
targeting the Aleppo International Airport. In February 2023, an Israeli air
strike killed 15 people in the Syrian capital.
Earlier this month, an Israeli air strike reportedly killed
three people at Syria’s Aleppo airport. Syria’s defence ministry said in a
statement that the missile attacks caused damage at the runway of the airport.
After the powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake wreaked havoc in
Syria, Israel launched several attacks on Aleppo and Damascus airports. Syria’s
Aleppo airport was used to deliver urgent relief aid to quake victims in the
country.
