How Sarraj Has Sold Libya To The Devil’s Advocate

Fayez al Sarraj, the head of Libya's internationally recognized government seems to have made a desperate move when siding with Recap Tayyip Erdogan.  In the hope of forming a stable government that has the UN backing, it is bringing in the devil's advocate that could be replicating another Syrian disaster and human catastrophe.

Actually, Turkey isn’t interested in fighting for Libya’s sovereignty but will take advantage of civil war and maximize control over the Mediterranean sea, using Libya as its safe route. Indeed, Libya is becoming a victim of foreign intervention and a country that was only held together well until the time Colonel Muammar Gaddafi was eliminated. Since then, the country has become a rich bounty of oil and gas reserves only and Turkey is making use of a government that does not know how to govern itself and who to turn to for support.

The self-styled military commander on the other side is a local make. While this Field Marshall Khalifa Haftar tries to take over the capital of Tripoli to prove his succession over Sarraj led government, the Turkish president has chosen ‘this’ opportune moment to exploit the situation for his own gain.

Sarraj does not realize his mistake but this quid pro quo between him and Erdogan is heavily tilted in Ankara’s favor only. Indeed, the unelected leader of GNA, Sarraj has written away from the future of Libya into the hands of an autocratic ruler and probably bound the country into a perpetual state of slavery. He has also gone against a UN embargo of seizing weapons from a foreign nation, allowing Turkey to bring in military know-how.

To add more injury to the Libyan insult, it has been confirmed by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights based in the UK that Syrian rebels allied with Turkey have opened recruitment offices to lure men willing to fight in Libya for the princely salary of $2,000 monthly. Also, there are confirmed reports that thousands of Islamist fighters have already been dispatched there. This does indeed make a mockery of Erdogan’s stated claim that his entry into Libya is merely to coordinate peace and cleanse the place of terrorists.
