EU Demands Fair Play Ground If Britain Wants To Do Business

European Union will have its own agendas in place, now that Britain is all set to exit from the United Kingdom on January 31, 2020. Expressing their intent, the German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas has said that Britain will have to compromise on issues such as consumer rights and environmental protection if it wants to do business with the EU.

Maas has categorically stated how European Union would want zero tariffs and zero trade barriers, along with zero dumpings and zero unfair competition. “Without similar standards to protect our workers, our consumers, and the environment, there can be no full access to the largest single market in the world,” speaking on a media event recently.

The European Union does not want to be treated as Britain’s dumping ground and will ask for respectable handling. Even the security and defense policies will need a completely new strategy and handling; all of which should happen once the Brexit is put in place. Maas has proposed a European Security Council (ESC). The ESC, he feels, could help them in coordinating joint positions on strategic issues of European security and also help in responding quickly to international crises. “We are working with France to flesh out this idea as quickly as possible in order to build a foundation for our future relationship,” Maas has indicated.

Having said that, he has cleared the air with Britain and that a seat is always there for them in Brussels.  But, now, the business would need equal footing and checks and balances in place that does not favor one nation over the others
