Turkish embassy in Saudi Arabia encourages public to refrain from false information of earthquake in Turkey

 


The Turkish embassy in Saudi Arabia has pleaded with the public to refrain from disseminating false information regarding today's devastating 7.4 magnitude earthquake that killed hundreds of people and tore through portions of Turkey and bordering northern Syria.

The Turkish embassy sent a statement to Arab News saying, "It is very vital for accurate information to be spread and deception to be fought against.

The embassy further stated that AFAD, the nation's emergency and disaster management organization, was in charge of organizing all rescue efforts.

According to reports, the earthquake that shook different regions of southern Turkey and northern Syria caused aftershocks that could be felt as far away as Cairo.

After Syrian health officials confirmed 237 fatalities in the nation's capital Damascus, the total number of fatalities from the strong earthquake increased to at least 360.

Emergency personnel is searching beneath the debris of the demolished buildings in both nations as part of rescue operations.
