Why Johnson asked his cabinet to boycott Davos summit?

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that he would not be attending this year’s World Economic Forum at the Swiss ski resort, and told his ministers to boycott it too. John-son, who was one of the regular attendees of the summit especially from 2009 to 2014 as a London Mayor, chose to turn away from it as he considered it an elitist gathering where world leaders hangout, have champagne and discuss world issues.

Johnson never really seemed to like it as even back in 2013 he described the event as “a great big constellation of egos involved in massive mutual orgies of adulation”. UK government, which has always been part of the event, this year chooses otherwise and makes deliberate efforts to distance itself from the global business and political elite.

A Government source said, “Our focus is on delivering for the people, not champagne with billionaires.

" The annual summit is of the World Economic Forum is scheduled to be held next month from Jan 21 to Jan 24. The theme for this year’s meet is said to be 'Stakeholders for a Cohesive and Sustainable World'.

Some see a reason in Johnson’s decision, while others view his boycott call as a disaster. Davos summit is a huge global forum and the British economy needs a global standing and outlook, now more than ever, especially after leaving the European Union on January 31.
