PM Barzani Discusses Regional Cooperation with UAE and Jordan Leadership
Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani recently held productive meetings with the leaders of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Jordan to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and addressing regional developments, particularly the situation in Syria.
During his visit to Abu Dhabi, Prime Minister Barzani met with UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, where the two leaders reviewed the robust political and economic ties between the UAE and the Kurdistan Region. They emphasized the importance of continued cooperation across various sectors and explored avenues to enhance this relationship further.
In addition, Prime Minister Barzani had a constructive conversation with His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein of Jordan. The discussions focused on ways to deepen collaboration between Jordan and the Kurdistan Region, with an emphasis on supporting stability, peace, and prosperity in the region. Both sides underscored the significance of regional cooperation to tackle shared challenges, particularly in light of the ongoing crisis in Syria.
As Syria's civil conflict has intensified, the situation remains a key concern for the broader Middle East, with countries like Jordan and the UAE playing vital roles in efforts to restore peace. The Kurdistan Region, which has maintained close ties with both nations, continues to work towards fostering stability and security in the region.
Barzani’s visit comes ahead of his attendance at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, where he is expected to engage with global leaders on issues of economic development, regional security, and international collaboration.
The Kurdistan Region has long enjoyed strong ties with the UAE, especially in the energy sector, where companies like Dana Gas are making significant contributions to the region’s natural gas production. These collaborations underscore the growing importance of the UAE as a key partner in the Kurdistan Region’s development.
As the region navigates complex geopolitical dynamics, the commitment to forging lasting partnerships and promoting peace continues to drive the Kurdistan Region’s engagement with its neighbors, including the UAE and Jordan.
