South Korea agreed with the United States the supply of humanitarian goods to Iran
The Republic of Korea has agreed with the United States the issue of supplies of humanitarian goods to Iran and may resume them in May. Seoul obtained a license from Washington, which will allow South Korean companies to avoid US sanctions.
"On April 6, the humanitarian supply process was launched under the general license No. 8,” says the source in the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This license will allow companies and financial institutions of the Republic of Korea to avoid the sanctions of the US government during certain trade operations with Iran.
As part of this arrangement, South Korean companies should carefully check their Iranian counterparties so that the goods they supply, including medicines and medical equipment, are used for their intended purpose. It is noted that exports may resume in a month.
It was previously reported that the South Korean government is considering creating a mechanism similar to the Swiss humanitarian trade agreement. Under this agreement, companies and organizations provide detailed information on trade transactions with the Iranian side to the US Treasury.
