German president believes world after pandemic will be different

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier called on the citizens of the country to be patient, disciplined and solidarity with the spread of the coronavirus and expressed the view that the world will be different after the pandemic.  This is stated in the Easter television address of the head of state to the inhabitants of Germany, the text of which was distributed on Saturday by his chancellery.

“I think we are at a crossroads now,” Steinmeier said.  “After all, what will happen now, when and how much it will be possible to relax restrictions, it is not only politicians and experts who have to decide. But it is in our hands, thanks to our patience and our discipline, right now, when it is given the hardest,” he emphasized.

"The pandemic shows us that we are vulnerable. We may have thought for too long that we are invulnerable, that we will always move only faster, higher," said the head of the German state.  “It was a mistake,” he stated.  "No, this pandemic is not a war. Countries do not fight against countries, soldiers do not fight soldiers. But this is a test of our humanity. It causes the worst and best that people have," he said.

According to the German president, "the world after the pandemic will be different."  "What will it be? It depends on us. Will we learn from the experience, both good and bad, that we all get every day during this crisis," the statement says.  According to Steinmeier, either everyone will fight only for themselves, procured for the future and not think about others, or make efforts to help other people.

“The solidarity that you confirm now every day will be even more necessary for us in the future,” he warned.  "Germany will not be able to get out of a strong and healthy crisis if our neighbors are also not strong and healthy," said the head of the German state.  According to him, 30 years after the reunification of Germany and 75 years after the end of World War II, the Germans must be united.
