Has Assad been the silent force behind Drug outrage in Syria?

Syria is slowly being gripped by the drug politics in the region and many believe that for this mess, Assad is to be blamed. Bashar Assad has always been heard for being neglectful towards more pressing issues and going after what he believes is power politics and recent developments prove this.

But this time not only Assad but his relatives are to be blamed for the drug mess that has been created in the country. Over a decade of civil war in Syria has made the Syrian land one of the most vulnerable lands in the world. One of the major threats that it witnesses today is drugs.

The drug industry has now become a multibillion-dollar operation. The kind of bloodshed that the land has witnessed over the years is being ignored for some profit making strategies that too with a violent approach.

A New York Times report also published that as per an investigation it was found out that it was in fact the Syrian army that was involved in drug trafficking. The Fourth Armored Division of the Syrian Army is commanded by Assad’s younger brother Maher Assad and it is under his rule that they are being ordered to let the drug supply go ahead in the nation.

The drug trade is not limited to Assad as a lot of business families are also involved in it. It has become  their second source of income in this crippling economy. One of the biggest players here is the militia group Hezebollah, based out of Lebanon. They have connections with Assad’s family and they have been helping them increase the drug trade in the whole region.

The information about the involvement of top leaders from Syria and militia groups was confirmed by the  law enforcement officials in 10 countries as well as many of the on ground officials.
