Blast near a military base in Tehran, Iran
A
large explosion in the capital of Iran, Tehran, was witnessed on Friday which
seemingly has played a role in the country’s past nuclear testing activities.
Social
media were filled by the pictures and videos of this incidents and were later
on picked up by the local news outlets. Witnesses
said the blast came from the direction of Parchin, a major military site. In
the videos, bright light is flaring out across the sky followed by a large
plume of smoke.
According
to the defense ministry spokesperson Davoud
Abdi told state TV the blast happened at a gas storage facility in a “public
area” of Parchin rather than the military base. The fire had been put out and
no casualties had been reported, he added, but gave no details about the cause
of the blast.
“Our colleagues are present on the ground and
investigating the incident carefully,” Abdi said.
This
is the same area where the Iranian technicians had allegedly done tested
high explosive components for a nuclear warhead in the early 200s, a claim Iran
has denied.
Anything
confirmed is yet to be known. This surely has sharpened the edges of rival
nations and they will be sure to keep an open ear to whatever happens in Iran.
As the Guardian reports, In 2014,
the military site was suspected to have been damaged by a fire or explosion of
the same circumstances, but investigations by the International Atomic Energy
Agency were shot down due to having no access to the area.
