UAE Champions Global Humanitarian Efforts with AED20 Billion Commitment in 2024

 The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has solidified its position as a global leader in humanitarian aid in 2024, showcasing unparalleled dedication to supporting vulnerable communities worldwide. With a remarkable commitment of AED20 billion, the UAE continues to lead impactful initiatives aimed at alleviating suffering and promoting sustainable development.



Zayed Humanitarian Legacy Initiative

Under the visionary leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE launched the Zayed Humanitarian Legacy Initiative, dedicating AED20 billion to addressing pressing global challenges. This initiative reflects the UAE’s deep-rooted commitment to fostering international solidarity.

Mothers’ Endowment Campaign

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, spearheaded the Mothers’ Endowment campaign. With an AED1 billion fund, this initiative honours the pivotal role of mothers by supporting education and training for millions across the globe.

Partnership with the G20

In a strategic partnership with the G20, H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced a US$100 million contribution to the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, aiming to combat global food insecurity and poverty through the UAE Aid Agency.

Healthcare Initiatives and Disease Elimination

The Reaching the Last Mile Initiative, driven by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, allocated AED55 million to the Global Institute for Disease Elimination (GLIDE). This funding supports the eradication of diseases in vulnerable populations, reinforcing the UAE’s commitment to global health.

Targeted Humanitarian Efforts in Crisis Zones

  • Gaza:
    The UAE launched Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, providing critical vaccinations for 640,000 children against polio. Humanitarian aid, medical supplies, and water infrastructure improvements benefitted over one million residents.

  • Lebanon:
    A US$100 million emergency relief package was directed by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed to assist Lebanon. The "UAE Stands with Lebanon" campaign and an additional US$30 million for displaced Lebanese citizens in Syria further underscored the UAE's commitment.

  • Sudan and Chad:
    The UAE pledged US$100 million to Sudan and its neighboring countries for humanitarian relief, alongside a US$10.25 million contribution to support Sudanese refugee women in Chad.

Global Disaster Relief and Development Support

The UAE extended aid to nations affected by natural disasters, including Burkina Faso, Brazil, the Philippines, Ethiopia, Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mauritania, Nigeria, Nepal, South Africa, Ivory Coast, and Cameroon.

The UAE also committed US$50 million to the second phase of Lives and Livelihoods Fund 2.0 (LLF 2.0), a multi-donor initiative to create sustainable pathways out of poverty for member countries of the Islamic Development Bank.
