Greta Thunberg donates $100,000 to UNICEF
Greta Thunberg is
a Swedish environmental and climate activist who is only 17 years old. She is
now, globally recognized for promoting the view that humanity is facing an
existential crisis arising from climate change and also of her awareness
program. Especially, her 'Fridays For Future' movement-asking people to come
into the streets and show their concern for nature was applauded a lot.
Greta Thunberg has
donated $100,000 to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for use
against the Covid-19 pandemic, the world body said Thursday(April 30,2020). The sum of the amount she donated to UNICEF was a prize amount she received from a
Danish foundation.
While making her
donations to UNICEF, the 17-year-old made a statement saying, “As the
climate crisis, the coronavirus pandemic is a child rights crisis. It will
affect all children, now and in the long term, but vulnerable groups will be impacted
the most. I’m asking everyone to step up and join me in support of UNICEF’s
vital work to save children’s lives, protect health and continuing education.
As the climate crisis, the coronavirus pandemic is a child rights crisis,”
UNICEF was overwhelmed
by the donations made by the young Swedish activist and said that this will be
useful to help a wide range of children who were affected by poverty, food
shortages and strained health care systems.
Meanwhile the
Indian Actress as well as 'Quantico' fame Priyanka Chopra, took to Twitter to
announce that she will collaborate with Swedish activist Greta to help children
who were affected by the coronavirus outbreak and the lockdown caused by corona
pandemic. It is notable that, Priyanka Chopra has been an ambassador for
UNICEF.
Priyanka Chopra on her Twitter handle wrote, "It’s heartbreaking to
see the effect of Covid-19 on vulnerable children across the world. They now
have to cope with food shortages, strained healthcare systems, violence &
lost education. We need to protect them.. the onus is on us. Join me in
supporting this much-needed campaign by @UNICEF & @GretaThunberg."
