British Foreign Minister to discuss preparations for NATO summit in London in Brussels

The Foreign Minister of the United Kingdom, Dominic Raab, called the meeting of the North Atlantic Council at the level of foreign ministers an opportunity to discuss preparations with NATO partners for the December alliance summit in London, as well as issues of joint defense, the fight against terrorism, and hybrid threats.  He stated this in anticipation of the meeting scheduled for Wednesday in Brussels.

"The UK is one of the founders of NATO and has played a key role in the North Atlantic Alliance for 70 years. Today we have the opportunity to work with our closest allies on common defense and security issues, including hybrid threats and international terrorism," Raab quoted in a communiqué.  distributed by the Foreign Office.

He especially drew attention to the fact that the main topic of the meeting would be preparations for the summit of the military organization, which will be held on December 3-4 in London.

"We look forward to Britain accepting NATO leaders in December, that we will celebrate NATO's 70th anniversary and discuss how to further strengthen the Alliance," Raab said.

In addition to preparing for the London summit, NATO members are expected to discuss higher military spending and the situation in Afghanistan.  It is expected that a decision will be made to recognize outer space as the sphere of NATO's operational activities along with land, sea, airspace and cyberspace.

On Wednesday in the margins of the meeting in Brussels, Raab also planned negotiations with colleagues from Germany and France - Heiko Maas and Jean-Yves Le Drian, respectively.  Among the topics for discussion were joint foreign policy objectives, including Tehran’s recent actions that contradict the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) for the Iranian nuclear program, and the "escalation of violence in Hong Kong.
