Biden Administration Wants Lebanon To Tighten Noose Over Hezbollah
Lebanon has many battles to fight. One of them is braving another attack from the Hezbollah to its sovereignty.
According to US military officials, Lebanon
needs to yet again brace for impact as there are chances the Hezbollah activity
will threaten the peace and stability of the nation.
Hezbollah that also has political influence
in the country, is said to be more interested in its own increase in power that
the lives of Lebanese people. These
concerns were raised primarily in a discussion on Washington’s defense
cooperation with Lebanon.
The world is getting tired of the Iran
backed Hezbollah’s constant interference in the workings of the government and
life of Lebanese people. The US has continued to extend support to the Lebanese
Armed Forces for close to 15 years, but now things look tight.
As Joe Biden tightens his control over
military spends and extended support into various troubled parts of the world,
the message is being sent off loud and clear.
The American strong voice from the White
House is keenest on Lebanese stability. “The administration remains keenly
interested in Lebanon’s stability, and as a result we are committed to working
with the LAF to find ways to bolster them in this time of crisis,” Dana Stroul,
the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (DASD) added at the discussions.
A few weeks back, the US showed the seriousness
of its intentions to stop money plundering by sanctioning seven Hezbollah
linked Lebanese. The United States Department of the Treasury’s Office of
Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) went ahead and blacklisted these affiliated connected
to Hezbollah and its financial institution, Al-Qard
Al-Hassan (AQAH).
